All About Dani
An Early Spark of Creativity
From a young age, I had an abundance of energy and creativity. I was lucky to have parents that encouraged me to explore my passions. I tried out ballet and tap dance, soccer and basketball, and even drama courses. Nothing stuck quite like art and reading. I constantly had my nose in a book or a pencil in my hand. My dad was an artist and my mom was an avid reader, so I followed in their footsteps.
Fine-tuning My Craft
It wasn't until high school where I started to take drawing more seriously. In addition to several drawing courses, I took painting, pottery, design, and photography classes. I also started taking creative writing courses. During my senior year of high school, I was nominated as the President of the National Art Honor Society and started brainstorming my first novel: The Art of Falling.
I decided to pursue creative writing as my major in college. Over the course of five years, I specialized in fiction, but also dabbled in non-fiction, poetry, and screenwriting. I also continued to take drawing, painting, and photography courses—as well as a photojournalism course that combined my love for storytelling and photography. I also got a job as the Photo Editor for the student newspaper. Any free time left after work and school was dedicated to editing my novel.
Building a Business
Since 2010, I’ve had my photography, poetry, and short stories published in several small journals, including VOICES, Swallow the Moon, and Echo Cognitio. I’ve also earned several awards in the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards, including two certificates for print making, a certificate in photography, and a Gold Key in photography.
My self-published photojournalism book, Trans*parency: Revealing the Life of a Trans* Man won first place in Oakland University's 2015 Communications and Journalism Student Showcase. Since 2017, I’ve published the first two books of The Age of Mythos series: The Art of Falling and The Art of Devotion.
I frequently attend comic and anime conventions in and around Michigan, selling my books and art prints.
